Thank you to the Chinese American community for your input and concerns on Senate Bill 562, which would create a government-run health care monopoly in California and significantly raise everyone’s taxes. My State Senate Republican colleagues and I also have concerns about the impact of SB 562 on families and businesses. We have an important update to share with you regarding the legislation.
最近，加州众院议长Anthony Rendon叫停了全民医保SB-562。他说SB-562是”极其不完善”的提案，有”致命的漏洞”。并把SB-562留作将来讨论。这并不意味着SB-562已经彻底死亡 – 没有一个提案或者想法在州府会真正消亡。目前这个提案只是暂停，留在将来讨论。
Just recently, California State Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon put the brakes on Senate Bill 562. Speaker Rendon said SB 562 was ‘woefully incomplete’ and has ‘potential fatal flaws.’ SB 562 has been shelved until further notice. This does not mean SB 562 is dead – no bill or idea ever really dies at the Capitol. It is currently on hold for more discussions and debate.

California State Senate Republicans agree that everyone deserves access to healthcare. My Republican colleagues and I believe everyone deserves affordable healthcare options especially for those who live in disadvantaged communities. But the California Legislature needs to act responsibly. According to a Senate Committee Analysis, the price tag for SB 562 is $400 billion dollars. An additional $200 billion in additional taxes would be needed. According to the state’s analysis, there is an assumption that the additional cost would be raised through a new payroll tax which would be about 15% of everyone’s paycheck.
